On Tuesday, after completion of the Gabba Test match, India spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket. Prior to the end of day's play, he was in a emotional state, sitting beside Virat Kohli, and the decision to retire came up during the press conference.

R Ashwin is 38-years-old at the moment and he decided to call curtains on his career as he wanted the youngsters to take the centre stage. Not only R Ashwin, but there are several other players in the side who are in the twilight of their career and could retire at the start of next year.

In this piece, we delve into the India starting XI at the Gabba Test and how much time does each player has before they hang up their boots.

R Ashwin - 38 years old (retired)

Despite still performing well, R Ashwin decided to announce his retirement at the age of 38 years old and will not play the remainder of the two Tests at MCG and SCG.

Rohit Sharma - 37 years old

Rohit Sharma is 37 years old and his performance has also dipped in Tests. Don't be surprised that after the Border-Gavaskar Series, the India Test skipper decides to bid adieu to the game at the start of 2025.

KL Rahul - 32 years old

At 32 years old, KL Rahul is not getting any younger, but as compared to Rohit and Kohli, he is still young enough to play for another 4 years, if his form allows him that.

Yashasvi Jaiswal - 22 years old

Still 22 years old, Yashasvi Jaiswal's career has just started and he has just cemented his place in the Indian side. If he continues to perform consistently, we might see the Jaiswal era for the next 15-years at-least.

Shubman Gill - 25 years old

At the peak of his powers at 25 years of age, Gill has entered the prime of his career, and just like Jaiswal will serve for long. If he follows his idol, Virat Kohli's path, we might see him for the next 10-12 years at the international stage.

Virat Kohli - 36 years old

Just like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli has also entered the twilight of his career. His performances have also dipped in Test cricket and if India fail to qualify for the WTC finals, we might see him taking retirement after BGT.

Rishabh Pant - 27 years old

Another player in the prime of his life, Rishabh Pant is the mainstay of Indian cricket, and will be the one to carry the mantle from this generation. If all goes well and he stays at the peak, Pant can play for another 7-8 years.

Nitish Kumar Reddy - 21 years old

Another youngster in the Indian side, Nitish Kumar Reddy made his Test debut in the ongoing series and is a promising talent. He is an all-format player and should play for another 15-years, since he is just 21 years.

Ravindra Jadeja - 36 years old

His partner in crime, R Ashwin retired on Tuesday, and with Jadeja also catching up with age, 2025 could witness another great player retiring. Jadeja is still fit though, and could possibly play another home season next year before announcing his retirement in early 2026.

Jasprit Bumrah - 31 years old

Fast bowler don't play for too long, and Bumrah has suffered serious in the past. At 31, he is still at the peak of his powers, but since he plays all three formats, the workload management needs to be done. He will play the next WTC cycle and could retire in 2027.

Mohammed Siraj - 30 years old

Another bowler who is in the wrong end of the 30s, Mohammed Siraj has become one of India's mainstays. However, his form is also questionable, but if he stays fit and consistently delivers, we might see him getting retired in the next 4 to 5 years time.

Akash Deep - 28 years old

At the prime of his career, Akash Deep still has lots of cricket left in him. He has just started out his journey, and if he stays fit, he may play for the next 5 years at-least.
