On Tuesday, May 27, Royal Challengers Bengaluru entered history books as they scripted their highest-successful run-chase in IPL history against Lucknow Super Giants to book a meeting with Punjab Kings in qualifier one on Thursday, May 29.
Notably, LSG, batting first, put 227 runs on the board. In reply, RCB chased down the target with six wickets in hand and 8 balls remaining. Further, Jitesh Sharma hogged the internet after his unbeaten 85 (33) that turned the course of the match. Chasing the mammoth target, the Challengers were reduced to 123/4 but Jitesh Sharma and Mayank Agarwal stitched an unbeaten 107 runs stand.
Sharma's Heroics Script New Records
Further, Jitesh also went onto script several milestones with his knock and most particularly, the keeper-batter shattered MS Dhoni's seven-year-old record for the highest individual score by a player batting at No.6 or lower in a successful run-chase in IPL.
Notably, MS Dhoni held the record for seven years when he played an unbeaten 70 (34) vs RCB at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in 2018. Meanwhile, here is the complete list of the players batting at No.6 or lower with highest individual score in a successful run-chase.
- 85*(33) - Jitesh Sharma (RCB) vs LSG, Lucknow, 2025
- 70* (34) - MS Dhoni (CSK) vs RCB, Bengaluru, 2018
- 70*(31) - Andre Russell (KKR) vs PBKS, Mumbai WS, 2022
- 70(47) - Kieron Pollard (MI) vs RCB, Bengaluru, 2017
- 68(30) - Dwayne Bravo (CSK) vs MI, Mumbai WS, 2018
Jitesh's knock has helped RCB qualify for the qualifier one and they will now lock horns against Punjab Kings at the Mullanpur Stadium on May 29.
