In a significant development, reports suggest that BCCI secretary Jay Shah, who would serve as ICC chairman from December 1, is likely to serve two tenures of three years instead of current model of three terms of two years. Notably, according to Cricbuzz, the ICC made these recommendations during the latest meeting with board members in Dubai, where one of the agenda was regarding the tenure of chairman and independent director.
On Monday, October 21, the ICC said that the recommendation will now be "circulated for approval" among its members, comprising Full and Associate Members. One of the primary reasons behind ICC's decision to make amendments to their current policies were to better the stability of governance and provide security to both the chairman and independent director.
Jay Shah To Resume Office From December 1
Shah recently was appointed as ICC chairman and replaced the outgoing ICC chair Greg Barclay, who has served two of his three terms since being elected in 2020 for the first time. Talking about the independent director's position, it has been lying vacant since former Pepsico chair Indra Nooyi finished her three terms earlier this summer.
While Shah is all set to take over his new role, it is to be seen who will be appointed as the next secretary. There were reports that DDCA president Rohan Jaitley was the frontrunner to succeed Shah, but Jaitley denied these rumours and remarked that he is all focused on leading the DDCA.
BCCI treasurer Ashish Shelar, joint-secretary Devajit Saikia and Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) secretary Anil Patel are also among the leading nominees likely to supervise the Indian cricket board during Shah’s ICC duties.
