Jay Shah Joins Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev In Anshuman Gaekwad's Condolence Meet

Anshuman Gaekwad, a distinguished former Indian cricketer and coach, passed away on July 31, 2024, after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was undergoing treatment at King's College Hospital in London for the past year. 

Gavaskar, Kapil Dev Attend Anshuman Gaekwad's Condolence Meet

A condolence meeting organised by his family was attended by several legendary cricketers, that included Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev. 

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah was also present, along with high-profile figures such as Gujarat DGP Vikas Sahay, city police commissioner Narasimha Komar, and Vadodara IG Sandip Singh. 

Former India cricketers Kiran More, Balwinder Singh Sandhu, Atul Bedade, and ex-Mumbai Ranji skipper Shishir Hattangadi were among the other attendees who paid their respects.


Anshuman Gaekwad's Contribution To Indian Cricket

Gaekwad, born in 1952, made his debut for India in 1974 and was known for his resilient batting style. Over his international career, he played 40 Test matches and 15 ODIs for India, earning a reputation for his defensive technique against some of the world's toughest bowlers. 

After retiring from international cricket in 1987, Gaekwad served as a coach for the Indian cricket team, leading them to significant victories, including a notable series win against Pakistan in 1999.

Further,  it is important to mention that in recognition of his contributions to Indian cricket, the 'Men in Blue' wore black armbands during the final ODI of their recent series against Sri Lanka to honour Gaekwad's memory.
