After suffering from a crushing defeat in the first Test at Headingley, Leeds, Team India embarks on a journey to level the series as they will play against England in the second Test match at Edgbaston, Birmingham. Ahead of the clash, Shubman Gill's India have plenty to ponder, including the fitness issues of star pacer, Jasprit Bumrah.
While India needs to sort out their poor fielding standards, it also has to keep an eye on the biggest problem at their hands - the Bumrah issue. Even before the start of the tour, Bumrah stated that he would only play three Tests to manage his workload.
He has already played a solitary game and has only two matches left on the tour. There are reports that he might sit out of the Edgbaston Test match but the latest sign is encouraging for Team India.
Bumrah to play in Birmingham? positive signs for Team India
In a video posted by TOI Correspondent, Sahil Malhotra, Bumrah was bowling in the nets to Shubman Gill and the pacer looked in ominous touch as he bowled with good rhythm and looked sharp as he gave a hint of his fitness ahead of the second Test match.
His run-up looked smooth as a butter as Bumrah's bowling would have brought smiles on Team India's management as they hope for a comeback at Edgbaston.
Who could replace Bumrah if he misses out on 2nd Test match?
There is still a high chance that the seamer might not play the second Test match and if he misses out, there are a couple of options ready - Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep.
Both the pacers have their advantages, with Arshdeep providing a left-arm angle and a different variety. He also has prior experience of playing in English County Season which could be beneficial for him.
On the other hand, Akash Deep is known for his mastery on swing bowling and could be needed if the pitch has some assisted for the seamers.
