England all-rounder Jamie Overton has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match Test series against South Africa and The Hundred due to injuries.
Overton sustained hand and foot injuries during a County Championship game between Surrey and Warwickshire last week. Surrey however went on to win that match by six wickets. The tall right-arm seamer bagged two wickets and scored 38 runs in the game.
After being assessed by the medical team, he is expected to be sidelined for six weeks.
The Surrey County Cricket Club have confirmed that the 28-year-old will miss "a period of time" after picking up injuries in the County Championship victory over Warwickshire at The Oval cricket ground.
"Injury update - Jamie Overton sustained injuries to his hand and foot in the game against Warwickshire. He will be out for a period of time as he recovers," Surrey stated in an official release.
Paul Walter has been brought in as replacement
Overton, who made his Test debut against New Zealand at Leeds in a Test match, picked up two wickets, and scored 97 runs, is expected to be unavailable for selection for the Proteas Test series.
Overton was due to play for Manchester Originals in The Hundred, which starts on Wednesday. However, due to his unavailability for the tournament, Essex all-rounder Paul Walter has been drafted in as the replacement at Manchester Originals for the second edition of the competition.
According to a bbc.co.uk report, Overton is going to return to the club for the conclusion of the County Championship 2022.
It is a major blow for Surrey and Manchester Originals as Overton was in fine form with the bat and ball and could've played a big part in the success of both the teams.
