AUS vs SA: Morne Morkel feels South Africa can challenge Australia

Former South Africa fast bowler Morne Morkel believes that the Proteas will pose a real challenge to Australia in their tour to down under later this year.

In recent times, South Africa has been a force to reckon with in the Test arena. The Proteas are sitting on the top of the World Test Championship 2021-23 points table with 5 wins in 7 matches. The Dean Elgar-led side is yet to lose a game in this cycle of the WTC.

Since South Africa's readmission in international cricket, no other visiting team has a better winning ratio in Tests played in Australia. The Proteas have accounted for six wins from 21 Tests played here (28.6 percent) with next-best being India's six victories from 27 games (22.2 percent).

Notably, they have conquered the Aussies in their past three Test tours to Australia in 2008-09, 2012-13, and 2016-17.

In a conversation with Cricket.com.au, Morkel talked about South Africa's current form in red-ball cricket and their chances of winning another Test series down under later this year.

"They'll be a team that arrives here ready to keep up the run (of success) that we've had in Australia. I think the cricket we've played here in our last couple of outings was amazing," Morne Morkel told cricket.com.au.

AUS vs SA: Proteas has the formula ready to tackle Australian conditions

Morkel feels that South Africans seem to have some sort of formula that enables them to perform well in Australia.

"They (South Africa) have found some sort of formula to come out here and perform well, and that's going to continue under Bouch (Mark Boucher).

"These conditions, and playing Australia in their own backyard, for some reason it motivates these guys to go that extra yard."
