Sanju Samson is one of the unfortunate cricketers of the present generation. Despite having the talent and the zeal, the batter has failed in making a cut on the big stage. Despite being one of the most talked about cricketers in India, Samson’s international career has been on a decline.

The 27-year-old definitely feels for not getting enough chances but is optimistic about dealing with the tough scenarios. Samson shot to prominence in the domestic circuit for his aggressive yet composed batting style. He was quick to get noticed by the selectors and made his debut for the Men in Blue in 2015.

However, things didn’t go as per plan for the wicketkeeper-batter, as he could never claim a permanent slot in the team. Initially, he had to warm the bench due to the presence of MS Dhoni as the keeper on the team. Post the former skipper’s retirement, one of his contemporaries, Rishabh Pant outshone Samson.

The wicketkeeper-batter positive about a better career ahead

Despite making his debut seven years back, the Trivandrum-born has played just seven One Day Internationals and 16 T20I for India. He has accumulated 176 ODI and 296 T20I at an average of 44.0 and 21.14. The 27-year-old hasn’t done something extraordinary in the blue jersey to get applauded.

However, in his defense, he never got consecutive matches to prove his mettle. The batter didn’t exactly have any time to settle in the team. Reflecting on his journey so far, Samson admitted to being low and pressurized.

The batter said as quoted by The Week,

"I am a believer that whatever you go through in your career, you have to take it in a positive manner. It's very tough, it definitely gets into your head when you know that all your friends are playing and you're not,"

Samson overwhelmed with his huge fan-following

Meanwhile, there is one thing that Samson can be grateful for in his cricket career. Despite not playing much for India, the Rajasthan Royals skipper boast of having a massive fan following. Fans are always eager to watch more of the wicketkeeper-batter.

"I feel surprised (on his fan following) that despite playing very little for India, I get good support. I feel there are a lot of Malayalis (in the crowd) as I hear cheers of 'Chetta Chetta' (elder brother) which make me feel proud."

He always receives a warm reception from the crowd irrespective of the stadium he is playing in. This is something that has overwhelmed the batter as well and he is always thankful for it.
