After suffering a harrowing car accident, Rishabh Pant has made his return after 15 months. The southpaw is back leading the Delhi Capitals side and has walked out to bat in their opening clash against the Punjab Kings in Mullanpur, Mohali. 

As Pant strode onto the pitch, the crowd erupted into a standing ovation, honouring his resilience and unwavering determination to bounce back. His journey to this moment began with a tragic car accident in December 2022, as he made his way back to his hometown of Roorkee.  

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians batter Suryakumar Yadav, who himself is sidelined to recover from an injury, shared a heartfelt message upon witnessing Rishabh Pant's return to bat for the first time in over a year. Taking to X, here’s what SKY wrote:

“Moment we all have been waiting for. Inspirational movies bahut dekhi hain par iss real life story ka koi tod nai.”

The Capitals felt the void left by their captain, particularly following a disappointing season where they languished at ninth position in the points table. However, it signals a fresh chapter for both the leader and the squad, as they strive to reassert themselves in the race for a playoff spot and potentially secure their first-ever title. 

Pant's innings came to a disappointing end as he fell to a short delivery from Harshal Patel, resulting in an edge to the short third man. He could only notch up 18 runs from 13 balls, including two boundaries as Delhi Capitals ended with 174 runs on board after being put to bat first by Punjab Kings.
