Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill's sensational performances propelled India to a series victory over West Indies at the Brian Lara Stadium on Tuesday in the final ODI of the three-match series in Trinidad. The duo was treated to a meeting with the legendary Brian Lara after leading India to a memorable win.

A meeting of generations - Kishan, Gill meet Lara

The third and final ODI of the series played at the Brian Lara Stadium witnessed an extraordinary display of skills and flair from Kishan and Gill. The pair ignited India's innings, sharing a 143-run opening partnership in 19.4 overs.

Gill's elegant 85 off 92 balls along with Kishan's aggressive 77 off 64, including eight fours and three sixes, set the tone for India's mammoth total of 351/5.

But it was the post-match meeting with Lara, one of cricket's most iconic figures, that added a poetic touch to the evening. Named after the legendary West Indian batter, the stadium itself served as a fitting backdrop to this meeting of cricketing generations where the trio had a heartfelt chat.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) celebrated the moment by uploading the heart-warming conversation on Twitter.

During the chat, Kishan recalled how he once received a text from Lara on Instagram, expressing his shock and happiness at being contacted by such a legend. He also mentioned his joy at performing in a stadium associated with Lara's name and revealed how he loves watching his highlights.

“I was taken aback to see you text on my DMs. I love watching your innings and the highlights of the shots you hit in the past. I am happy to perform here (at the Brian Lara Stadium)," said Kishan.

Similarly, Gill reminisced about his childhood memories of watching the West Indian stalwart play. He particularly admired how Lara would boldly attack bowlers, especially in test cricket.

From the first ball, Lara's aggressive batting style was an inspiration for Gill, helping him understand how to take control of a game across all formats.

"All my memories are of him (Lara) taking on the bowlers and smashing them, especially in red ball. He used to be one of those batters who would take on the bowlers from ball one and that inspired me as a batter to understand how to dominate the game in all formats," stated Gill.

Meanwhile, the dynamic duo that looks poised to be at the forefront of India's cricketing future will hope to replicate their heroics in the T20Is, a format which West Indies has mastery over. The five-match T20I series starts on Thursday, August 3 at Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad.
