Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan took a swipe at English fans after England's disastrous eight-wicket loss to Sri Lanka at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday, October 26.

The decision made by England's captain Jos Buttler to bat first after winning the toss ultimately backfired, as they were bundled out for a paltry 156 runs, and Sri Lanka comfortably reached the target in 25.4 overs.

This marks the fourth defeat of the reigning champions in the 2023 World Cup, out of the five matches they have played, and it has left their prospects of reaching the semifinals in dire straits.

Taking to Twitter, here’s what Irfan Pathan said:

“Some people were more concerned about empty seats in the stadiums, when it would have been wiser to focus on their cricket.”

It's worth mentioning that some English fans and even cricket pundits from England contended that Indian fans weren't showing much excitement for the 2023 World Cup. They specifically noted the lack of attendance during matches not involving India.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan was among those who, on a couple of occasions, highlighted the sparse crowd in the stadium.

In actuality, there has been a remarkable level of excitement among Indian fans, evident in nearly every match, whether it's featuring the Indian team or not. The crowd has turned up with great enthusiasm, thoroughly enjoying the vibrant atmosphere.
