'Scott Edwards Over Babar Azam' - Shane Bond's Surprising Take Regarding Best Captain

The former New Zealand cricketer Shane Bond picks the Netherlands captain, Scott Edwards, as a better captain than Pakistan's Babar Azam. Team Pakistan have lost against Afghanistan by eight wickets in the ongoing World Cup 2023.

While on a chat with ESPNCricinfo, Shane Bond was asked to choose between the Netherlands' Scott Edwards and Babar Azam. He chose Scott Edwards as the better captain than Babar Azam.

Here's why Shane Bond chose Scott Edwards over Babar Azam:

Babar Azam has been facing a lot of criticism lately after his team lost against Afghanistan by a big margin of eight wickets. Despite three losses in five games, Babar Azam is also not having a good time with the bat. He has scored just 157 runs in five games. A few former cricketers believe that he should leave captaincy, which will improve his batting as it will remove the added pressure from his shoulders.

On the other hand, Scott Edwards has been impressive lately. He played a match-winning knock of 78 runs, which helped the Netherlands team reach a decent total of 245, and his captaincy was of no use as the team managed to defend the score and pull off one of the biggest upsets in the history of World Cups.

Shane Bond, who recently joined the Rajasthan Royals team as a bowling coach, was asked to make a choice between Babar Azam and Scott Edwards. And he preferred to choose Scott Edwards as the better captain in this tournament. Undoubtedly, Scott has been more successful in executing his plans, and it has been evident from the results.

However, Babar Azam has not been able to execute his plans and produce timely breakthroughs as his spinners are not able to take wickets in the middle overs. His team will be taking on the Proteas tomorrow in their sixth game of the tournament.
