The much-awaited Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction is finally here. The auction took place in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, December 16. Notably, this year’s auction included a total of 369 players, out of which 244 were Indian players and 115 were overseas players.
Just a day before the auction, 19 new players were added to the list, including well-known names like Abhimanyu Easwaran and Swastik Chikkara. However, even with so many players available, there are only 77 total slots open across all teams.
When it comes to the five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK), they have made some big and surprising decisions before the auction. CSK released their star fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana and also traded two key all-rounders, Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran, to Rajasthan Royals. In return, CSK managed to trade in Sanju Samson, which is being seen as one of the biggest and boldest moves of this season.
It is worth mentioning that CSK entered the IPL 2026 auction with a remaining purse of ₹43. 4 crore.
IPL 2026: CSK retained players list
Before the auction, the team retained 16 players, which means they needed to fill 9 more spots in their squad during the mini-auction. When it comes to overseas players, CSK retained only 4 foreign players so far, leaving them with 4 overseas slots still available.
