IPL 2025: BCCI Reveals The Deadline For Submission Of Retained Players List

With the IPL 2025 mega auction coming up, the BCCI has set an important deadline. All 10 teams need to share their lists of players they want to keep by October 31, 2024. The IPL Governing Council confirmed this decision, aiming to make the auction process smoother and create a competitive atmosphere for both teams and players.

According to Cricbuzz, franchises have until 5 PM IST on October 31 to submit their final retention list. “It may be noted that for retention purposes, any player who gets capped on or before October 31, 2024, will be considered a capped player.”

As per the latest updates, franchises are permitted to retain up to six players in total. This can be achieved either through regular retention or by utilizing the Right to Match (RTM) card option. 

The retention policy is designed to allow teams to maintain a core group of players while also offering the flexibility to adapt to changing team dynamics. With the auction purse now increased to Rs 120 crore per team, franchises will have more financial leeway to assemble their ideal squads.

  • Maximum Retentions: Teams can retain up to six players, either through regular retention or using RTM cards.
  • Capped Players: A maximum of five capped players (Indian or overseas) can be retained.
  • Uncapped Players: A maximum of two uncapped players may also be retained.
  • Definition of Capped: Players capped on or before October 31, 2024, will be considered capped for retention purposes.
  • Auction Purse: Each team's auction purse has been increased to Rs 120 crore for the 2025 season.
  • Match Fees: All players participating in the playing eleven will receive a match fee of Rs 7.05 lakh per match, a significant boost from previous seasons.
