The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has set March 22 as a tentative launch date for the 2024 edition of the much-awaited Indian Premier League (IPL), as per recent reports. The tournament will likely conclude on May 26, i.e., roughly a week prior to the commencement of the T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies and USA.

BCCI sets tentative launch date for IPL 2024

According to a report from Cricbuzz, the BCCI is planning to hold the IPL 2024 season between March 22 and May 26. Furthermore, the second season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) will likely be taking place between February 22 and March 17.

The aforementioned planning will be leaving a gap of five days between the conclusion of WPL 2024 and the commencement of the IPL 2024 season.

Earlier, BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla had confirmed that the WPL 2024 season will be hosted by Bengaluru and Delhi, thus marking a departure from last year’s WPL tradition of a single-city venue.

As far as venues for the IPL 2024 is concerned, the BCCI is actively holding talks with the Indian government. The commencement of the much-awaited IPL season is set to collide with the coinciding general elections in India.

Even though the IPL 2009 and IPL 2014 were either fully or partly hosted overseas, the BCCI is intending to host the entirety of this year’s season in India. However, any venue confirmation will only be finalized once the dates for the general elections are unveiled by the Indian government.
