With the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 just around the corner, the Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise reached worrisome news about the participation of their ace player Suryakumar Yadav.

Yadav, who has been out of commission since December, could miss the initial matches (away) for MI as the National Cricket Academy medical panel might wait before declaring the T20 superstar fit for action.

Yadav, who underwent — ankle and sports hernia — surgeries over the past few months, is currently spending his time at NCA for rehabilitation. As quoted by Hindustan Times, a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) source stated that the 32-year-old will make his return to the field in the IPL but is yet to receive clearance for the first two matches despite being well on track for recovery.

SKY's return still not clear: BCCI Source

"Suryakumar Yadav's rehabilitation is on track and he will certainly 'Return to Play' in the IPL itself. However it is still not clear whether the NCA's Sports Science and Medical Team will give clearance to play in the first two away games against Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad (March 27).

There are still 12 days to go before MI play their first game but it could be a race against time to get fit by the first match itself,"

Overall, in 139 IPL matches, Yadav has slammed 3,249 runs with one hundred and 21 fifties, having been a constant feature with Mumbai Indians since 2018.

Mumbai commences their IPL 2024 campaign under new skipper Hardik Pandya on March 27 against Gujarat Titans (GT) and then travels to Hyderabad to clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on March 27.

Interestingly, Pandya, too is making a comeback from a long injury layoff and will look to accommodate Yadav's absence in the away games before playing Mumbai's first home match of the season on April 1.
