MS Dhoni has been a pivotal figure for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), contributing significantly to the team's success over the years. However, questions have arisen about his fitness in the 2024 IPL season. Despite leading CSK to their fifth title in 2023, it appears that the veteran cricketer is grappling with a knee injury.

Throughout the previous season, MS Dhoni played with heavy strapping on his left knee. While his wicket-keeping remained top-notch, his performance with the bat seemed affected, often batting at lower positions and struggling with running between the wickets. 

After the triumph, Dhoni underwent keyhole knee surgery, raising doubts about his fitness for the upcoming season.

During the 2024 IPL season, Dhoni's appearances have been limited, with him notably absent from the batting order except for a match against the Delhi Capitals. 

His former teammate, Michael Hussey, hinted at ongoing concerns about Dhoni's fitness during the CSK vs SRH clash at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, suggesting that he might continue to bat lower in the order to manage his workload. He stated 

"(On Dhoni possibly batting up the order) MS Dhoni's still working on achieving 100% fitness post the knee surgery he underwent last year."

Despite assurances from Dhoni about his return for another season, his physical condition remains a subject of speculation. His commitment to playing for CSK and for the fans is evident, but uncertainties persist regarding his ability to perform at his peak.
