In a latest development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued Covid-19 advisory to each of the ten Indian Premier League franchises in the wake of the recent surge in the cases throughout the country.

India registered 4,435 Covid-19 positive cases over the course of the past 24 hours, with one death reported from Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka and four in the state of Maharashtra.

With the IPL back to its home-away format this season, players are constantly moving from one place to another, leaving them exposed to a greater chance of getting infected with the virus.

The BCCI is regularly monitoring the development, and as a matter of caution, the governing body has asked all the franchises and their players to follow the prescribed safety guidelines.

Here's what a BCCI source told the media:

"BCCI has asked everyone to be more alert and cautious to curtail Covid in IPL. We know cases are rising but nothing to worry about we have directed players and support staff to follow COVID guidelines. Health and safety of players is paramount for us.

What so ever will be the guidelines from government will follow. Our team is monitoring the situation and we are keeping track as far as covid is concerned there is nothing to worry,” as quoted by India Today.

The IPL, much like the entire world, was severely affected during the peak of Covid-19. The tournament was moved entirely to the UAE for the 2020 season, and then, an year later, it was again played in the Gulf Nation after the first half was disrupted by the deadly 2nd wave in India.

The 2022 season was played in only a few select stadiums under a bio-secure environment. The current season is the first time since 2019 that the IPL is being played across the length and breadth of the country, and the BCCI and fans will hope that long it may continue.
