A fantastic rearguard led by centurion Lorcan Tucker (108 off 162) has helped Ireland give themselves an outside chance of a historic Test win at the close of the 3rd day of the one-off match against hosts Bangladesh in Dhaka.

Having started the day at 14/4 with a whooping 128 run in arrears, the Irish couldn't have asked for the worst beginning to the morning session as they lost Peter Moor (16 off 78) to Shoriful Islam to sink further at 51/5.

It is at this point that the half-centurion of the previous innings, Harry Tector came together with Lorcan Tucker, and over the course of the next 24 overs, the duo went about resurrecting the sinking ship.

Tector registered another 50+ score (56 off 159) before his 72-run association with Tucker was ended by Taijul Islam.

However, Tucker continued with his rearguard action, and he found great company in Andy McBrine, who stuck around for 144 deliveries for his eye-catching 71, laced with 8 fours and a six.

The duo added 111 runs for the 7th wicket, and in the process, Tucker completed his maiden Test hundred to become only the 2nd Irishman after Kevin O Brien to register three figures in this format.

Tucker was eventually dismissed by Ebadot Hossain when Ireland's score read 234, but McBrine, along with the tailenders, proceeded to add another 52 runs to swell the lead to 131 runs.

McBrine is still unbeaten, and he, and his team will hope that he adds a few more runs to the lead when he returns to bat on Friday morning.
