IPL 2022 | Dewald Brevis opens up on De Villiers; reveals Indians he idolizes

The 19-year-old Dewald Brevis became the talk of the cricket town earlier in January this year with his breath-taking performances in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

His flamboyance with the bat and fearlessness in shot selection earned him the tag of ‘Baby AB’, as he emulated the charisma of his multi-talented countryman, Abraham Benjamin de Villiers.

Brevis got emotional while mentioning that he looks up to AB de Villiers and wants to be like him. Speaking on the MI show on Star Sports, he said, “I think a lot of people know AB de Villiers, and I have looked up to him since I was a youngster and love the way he played and how he goes about his game.”

Revealing the player he always idolized, Brevis said, “Then also Sachin Tendulkar, always idolized him because the way he plays and the way he lives about his mottos and how he goes about the things in life.”

The Proteas teenager also lauded Virat Kohli and Shane Warne. “I also like Virat Kohli and as a bowler Shane Warne, I look up to him because I’m also a leg spinner so that’s why." Said the Mumbai Indians’ latest star.

Brevis has brought a breath of fresh air this year to the Mumbai Indians’ camp with his belligerent hitting of the cricket ball. With their top order struggling to make an impact and the middle order missing the Pandya brothers, Brevis has a lot of responsibility to carry the team home.

The teenager’s four sixes in an over against Rahul Chahar had brought him heaps of praise from Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma. The Mumbai Indians will be hoping the youngster carries this form throughout the tournament.
