IPL 2022 | Rahul Tripathi opens up on his blistering 71 against Kolkata

Sunrisers Hyderabad's right-handed batsman Rahul Tripathi once again showcased on Friday night why he is revered as one of the best uncapped Indian batters in the IPL.

The 31-year-old Maharashtra batsman showcased his full range during a whirlwind knock of 71 off just 37 deliveries to set up a comprehensive 7-wicket win against his former franchise, the Kolkata Knight Riders.

It was a typical Tripathi innings where he took the attack to the bowlers. But, of course, it also helped that he knew quite a bit about the critical weapons of his former franchise's bowlers.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Tripathi opened up about scoring runs against his former franchise besides revealing how he planned to counter KKR bowlers.

"I had fun. It was special with KKR and is special with SRH as well. Russell bangs in short, and I was looking for the pull if he bowled short. Varun bowls well. I didn't expect him to bowl up. I went with the shot and wasn't pre-determined. So I thought of putting him under pressure,"

Tripathi was a part of the Knight Riders between 2018 to 2021. After not being retained by the SRK co-owned franchise, he was picked up by the SunRisers for Rs 8.5 Crore.

The right-hander spoke about his relationship with both franchises besides thanking SRH management for taking care of him when he was suffering from health issues last month.

"It's been special with KKR and with the SunRisers. The first few games have gone well. I have struggled with my health in the past week, but they have supported me," he said.

"I enjoy it a lot. There are tough days, but on good days, I look to enjoy myself. Before going to bat, I am a bit fidgety. I am happy I could play this innings today," added Tripathi.

Tripathi's blistering 71 and an equally swashbuckling 36-ball 68* from Aiden Markram helped SRH chase 175 and pick up their third consecutive win of the season.
