IPL 2022 | DC vs RCB - Fantasy Tips

The Rivalry between Delhi and Bangalore has to be one of the most underrated rivalries in IPL history and they have put on some stellar matches and individual performances over the past many years.

In this particular season, Delhi Capitals have gotten off to a slow start with a win in their last match and they would look to keep their momentum going into this match while the royal challengers Bangalore lost their last game to CSK comprehensively but they will take some positives in that game in the form of the performances from their youngsters and their finishers and they would be looking to gain the momentum back.

Let us perform some team-wise analysis over the past 2 years and see how the two teams have fared.

With the bat (Since 2020)

Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capital have the best strike rate among all teams since 2020 in the first 15 balls. This was due to the presence of two swashbuckling openers, one of whom provided a quick start in the powerplay. Delhi have maintained a similar composure throughout the innings and have a decent strike rate of 156.3 in the last 15 balls of the innings.

In this season, they have a higher strike rate of 136.7 in the first 15 balls of the innings and an even better strike rate of 145.7 between their 16th and 30th ball. The team would hope for a similar start in their upcoming battle.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

RCB, in comparison to Delhi, have started off on a slow note in the first 15 balls where they have a strike rate of just above 107. They have accelerated in the next phase with a strike rate of 121.2 and they have maintained this momentum throughout the middle overs. They also have a very good strike rate of 164.1 in the last 15 balls of their innings and with Dinesh Karthik in a swashbuckling form, RCB would back him to give them runs in the death.

With the ball(Since 2020)

Delhi Capitals

One of Delhi’s biggest strengths since the 2020 season has been their bowling attack. They have started

off tightly by conceding an economy of just below 6.2 (Second best among all teams since the 2020 IPL) but in the 2022 season, this value has increased to 6.80.

They have ended up conceding an economy of 7.78 between their 16th and 30th delivery. A major reason could be due to the fact that teams tend to go aggressive after they have gotten settled in the first 15 balls to capitalize in the powerplay. They also ended up maintaining an economy rate of 8.39 in between their 91st and 105th delivery which is impressive in the modern-day t20 format of the game.

This value has gotten even better for them in this 2022 season where they have maintained an economy of 7.80 in this phase

Royal Challengers Bangalore

RCB have started in a similar fashion in the first 15 balls, conceding an economy rate of 6.2 but one of their major issues in the powerplay has been their ability to consistently take wickets in the powerplay and this is clearly shown by their high balls per wicket ratio. In the current season, the balls per wicket value further increased to 60 in their first 15 balls.

They have also maintained an economy rate of 8.05 and 9.24 in the death overs which is very impressive. They have had varying returns in the death overs in the 2022 season where they have maintained an astounding economy rate of 6.20 between the 91st and 105th delivery while they have leaked runs between the 105th and 120th delivery conceding an economy rate of 12.65(highest among all teams this season).

Matchup stats

David Warner against the Pacers of RCB

David Warner has always been a wonderful player of pace and his stats against Harshal Patel and Siraj are nothing short of magnificent. While he has been dismissed once by Siraj in the powerplay, he still has a strike rate of 169.2 in the 13 balls he has faced while against Harshal Patel, he has a phenomenal record in the powerplay striking at a colossal 208.3 without being dismissed. It will be interesting to see how the pacers try to get the better of him in the upcoming match.

Axar Patel against Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli

Axar is known for his consistent line and length and bowling stump to stump against batsmen by not giving them enough room to go for big shots. Though his record against Faf and Kohli aren't fantabulous, he has always kept them on their toes.

Against Faf- He has bowled 18 deliveries to Faf in the powerplay and has only conceded 22 runs and has also picked up a solitary wicket while in the middle overs, he has bowled 46 deliveries and conceded only 49 runs and has also got in dismissed once.

Against Virat Kohli - Kohli has been slightly more aggressive in the powerplay striking at 141.2 in the 17 deliveries faced in the powerplay without being dismissed while in the powerplay, he has been more cautious scoring at a run a ball in the 40 balls he has faced while being dismissed once.

Mustafizur Rahman vs Virat Kohli in the powerplay

Mustafizur is coming back to form in this  IPL and his rivalry against Kohli in the league is a short but interesting one. Kohli has faced 22 deliveries in the powerplay and has struck at only 95.5 and has also been dismissed once. In the middle overs, Kohli has the better record where he has faced Rahman for 13 deliveries and has a strike rate of 169.2 without being dismissed.

Maxwell vs Kuldeep Yadav

This rivalry has been a very interesting one in the IPL considering the number of deliveries between these two players. Though Maxwell has only faced Kuldeep for 14 deliveries in this league, he has an astounding strike rate of 257.1 but Kuldeep has got the better of maxwell twice within the 14 balls.  With the form Kuldeep is in right now, it will be interesting to see how this rivalry unfolds

Maxwell’s Bowling vs left-hand batsman in the middle overs

Maxwell is someone who can give 2 to 3 handy overs in the middle to break a partnership and his record against the left-hand batsman. He has dismissed Pant twice within the 12 deliveries they have encountered at a strike rate of 91.7, while he has dismissed Warner once in the 18 deliveries they have encountered. Considering du Plessis is a captain who supports data-driven decisions, it will be interesting to see if he backs this match up and goes with Maxwell in the middle.
