India to face Australia at SCG (Source:@AP)
After suffering a crushing 184-run defeat in the Boxing Day Test at the MCG, India’s hopes of securing a place in ICC WTC final 2025 are dicey. This defeat has left India trailing 2-1, and with just one Test remaining in the series, the pressure is mounting as they head to the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) for the New Year's Test.
India’s WTC Fate Now Beyond Their Control
With the loss at the MCG, India can no longer dictate their own destiny in the race for the WTC final. A win at the SCG is now a do-or-die scenario for India, as a loss or even a draw would end their hopes of qualifying for the WTC 2023-25 final.
On the other hand, if Australia even draws one or both of their upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka or if they win the remaining match against India, they will undoubtedly qualify for the WTC final and play against South Africa.
So, as India and Australia will lock horns against each other in the last and final Test at SCG, let's take a look at India's Test record at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
India's Test Record At SCG
The Sydney Cricket Ground has been a mixed venue for India over the years. India first played at the SCG in December 1947, under the leadership of Lala Amarnath, when they faced an Australian side led by Donald Bradman.
In the 13 Test matches played at the SCG, India has lost five times. Since that loss, India has not been defeated in any of their subsequent visits to the ground for a red-ball game. India has drawn seven of their last eight Tests at the SCG.
