On Monday, December 30, Australia beat India by 184 runs in the Melbourne Test to lead the five-match series 2-1. The defeat has slimmed India's chances of qualifying for the WTC finals. All hopes now rely on the Sydney test that will take place on January 2.
The Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) will host the fifth and final match of the ongoing BGT. Interestingly, it will be a Pink Test, a tradition that has been ongoing since 2009. This article will shed light on what is a Pink Test and why will Sydney Cricket Ground host it.
What Is A Pink Test?
First started in 2009 when South Africa toured Australia, the Pink Test is a term used for the first red-ball match of the year and the entire stadium is covered in pink in support of Glenn McGrath's Foundation.
The motive behind the Pink Test is to raise awareness about breast cancer. Unfortunately, Australia legend Glenn McGrath had lost his wife Jane to the disease back in 2008. The cricketer launched the McGrath Foundation after his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer to spread awareness and collect funds for patients and survivors.
Not just the stands and stadium, but even the Australian players will don jerseys with an element of pink on them, such as caps, jersey numbers and names will all be in pink.
It is worth noting that Australia boast an impressive record at the SCG since 2009 as they have lost just one match that too in 2011 against England in the last match of the Ashes.
