The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 starts today, with a repeat of the 2019 final, which will see defending champions England square off against runners-up New Zealand at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in India.

Some 1,881 kilometers away in Chennai, Team India quietly kicked off their preparations as well after arriving from Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday morning. As reported by MyKhel, India's net sessions were closed-door, with members of the media being asked not to shoot or be present.

Interestingly, the report mentions that the focus of India's session was on former skipper Virat Kohli.

Kohli, who flew in from Mumbai after missing the second abandoned warm-up, was seen batting against local spinners, apart from the usual throw-downs. The training schedule was for two hours, however, having not played much cricket of late, batted for an extra 45 mins.

Skipper Rohit Sharma is expected to rejoin Team India today after being present for the Captain's Meet event on Wednesday in Ahmedabad.

India head into the tournament, having seen both their warm-up get washed out due to rains, however, will be high on confidence knowing they beat Australia 2-1 in the three-ODI series last month.

India will face-off against familiar foes in Australia on October 8, when both these high-profile teams clash at Chepauk.

Meanwhile, defending champions England will begin their title defense against New Zealand in the tournament opener today at Ahmedabad.
