In a significant development, the BCCI secretary, Devajit Saikia, has confirmed that India's Test squad for the upcoming home series against West Indies will be announced amid the ongoing Asia Cup. Led by Shubman Gill, India are set to host West Indies in two Test matches on home soil next month.

BCCI Secretary Reveals When India Squad For WI Tests Will Be Unveiled

Under Suryakumar Yadav's leadership, India have showcased remarkable form, outclassing their opponents across all fronts in the ongoing Asia Cup edition. After the conclusion of the marquee event, the Indian side will face Roston Chase-led West Indies in two Test matches on the home soil.

Meanwhile, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has revealed that the Indian team for the West Indies series will be announced on either September 23 or 24. He also disclosed that the BCCI selection committee will finalise the squad through an online meeting.

"Selection for the Indian Test team for the upcoming Test series against West Indies will be done on Sept 23 or 24. Selection meeting will be online," Saikia told reporters at the BCCI headquarters, as quoted by TOI.

India Players In The Spotlight Ahead Of Squad Selection

Several prominent Indian cricketers recently auditioned for Test slots in the recently held unofficial match against Australia-A. While Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel and Narayan Jagadeesan shone brightly, Shreyas Iyer jeopardised the chances of his red-ball comeback with middling returns.

It will be interesting to see if the selectors rest Jasprit Bumrah for the home series, given that pacers generally don't play a significant role on the spin-friendly Indian pitches. Additionally, it won't be surprising if Karun Nair, who couldn't capitalise on the batting opportunities in England, gets sidelined from India's scheme of things in the longest format.

The first Test between India and West Indies will be played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad from October 2 to 6. Meanwhile, the second Test will take place at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi between October 10 and 14.
