India have suffered a huge loss by eight wickets in the opening Test of the three-match series against New Zealand in Bengaluru Test and it has halted their march a bit towards that third consecutive WTC final. They have retained the number 1 spot though, but the percentage points have dropped from 74.24 to 68.06 after the loss.
New Zealand, on the other hand, have jumped to the number four position with their first Test win on Indian soil since 1988. India now have played 12 Tests in this WTC cycle and have eight wins and three losses in it along with one draw. They have 98 points on the board while New Zealand have played nine Tests and have four wins and five losses. Their Percentage point is 44.4% and they have 48 points in their kitty.
India's Task Gets Tougher After New Zealand Loss
India now need to win five Test matches out of their remaining seven to confirm their place in the WTC final. The second team on the table is Australia with 62.50 percentage points. They have eight wins in 12 matches and three losses with one draw. They have 90 points on the table, eight less compared to India.
Sri Lanka after whitewashing New Zealand in their last series are at the number 3 position. They have won five out of their nine matches and have lost four games. They have 60 points on the table and have a healthy percentage point of 55.56. The likes of England and South Africa occupy the number five and number six positions on the points table while Bangladesh, Pakistan and West Indies are at the bottom three in this cycle.
