IND vs SA | Washington Sundar replaces injured Deepak Chahar for ODIs

Washington Sundar is set to replace Deepak Chahar in the remaining two matches of the home series against South Africa. The young spinner previously represented the national side back in February this year. In a bid to make a comeback to the team, the cricketer took up an English County assignment for Lancashire.

Meanwhile, Chahar sustained some stiffness on his back after the third T20I and was subsequently benched from the first ODI match in Lucknow.


Washington Sundar fills in for T20 World Cup bound Deepak Chahar

Deepak Chahar was ruled out of the series-opening first ODI against South Africa in Lucknow earlier this week. The Indian team lost the match by nine runs to concede the opening lead to the visitors.

The speedster, however, did played the entirety of three T20Is against the same opponents earlier. He picked three wickets across the three matches, and delivered two economical spells in the first two fixtures to help India seal the series with a game to spare.

Notably, Chahar is one of the standby players for the Indian team in this month’s T20 World Cup in Australia. The cricketer is slated to tour ‘Down Under’ after the series against South Africa to join the rest of the Rohit Sharma’s drawcards.

While the extent of his injury is yet to be determined, it remains to be seen whether he will be fit in time for the tournament.
