Sri Lanka led a triumph over Malaysia as the former achieved a 72-run victory in the 14th match of the ongoing Women's Asia Cup.

Lankan bowlers stifle Malaysia

Needing 106 runs to win, Malaysia were swamped with Sri Lanka's bowling effort as the likes of Malsha Shehani, Inoka Ranaweera, Sugandika Kumari and Oshadi Ranasinghe outdid them.

The magnitude of the failure could be known by the highest score of the innings, which is just 18 runs that were scored by their opener, Elsa Hunter.

Eventually, Malaysia could record a total of 33 runs, which is also the third-lowest in the history of the Women's Asia Cup. Thus, Sri Lanka won the match by 72 runs.

Ranasinghe stars on an arduous batting track

Opting to bat first, Sri Lanka were left reeling at 14/3 as Malaysia created an opening for themselves.

However, a 32-run partnership between Chamari Athapaththu and Nilakshi de Silva saved the day. While both of these batters fell in quick succession, Ranasinghe's 18-ball 23 propelled the side to 105/7 in their 20 overs.
