India and Australia are set to clash in the second Test of their five-match series, which begins on December 6 at the Adelaide Oval. As the teams prepare for the encounter, Australia has announced its squad with one significant change.
Fast-bowling all-rounder Beau Webster has been added as a back-up of Mitchell Marsh. This decision comes as Marsh deals with fitness issues after feeling sore following the first Test in Perth. Apart from Webster's inclusion, the Australian squad remains unchanged, signaling confidence in the team’s overall performance.
Who is Beau Webster?
Beau Webster, a 30-year-old allrounder from Tasmania, has been making waves in Australia’s domestic cricket scene. He has shown exceptional form with both bat and ball in hand. In a recent Sheffield Shield match, he played a pivotal role by scoring 61 and 49, while also taking five wickets, helping Tasmania secure a 55-run victory over New South Wales at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Webster has significant experience in first-class cricket, having played 93 matches where he has scored 5297 runs at an average of 37.83. His batting record includes 12 centuries and 24 half-centuries. On the bowling front, he has taken 148 wickets at an average of 37.39, with three four-wicket hauls and two five-wicket hauls to his name.
In addition to his domestic achievements, Webster recently delivered a strong performance in an unofficial Test series against India A. He scored an unbeaten 61 in the first match and followed it up in the second game with six wickets and an unbeaten 46*, steering Australia A to victory in a tense run chase.
Australia Will Play Pink-Ball Test In Adelaide
The second Test will be a pink-ball Day-Night match played in Adelaide. It's a crucial game for Australia, especially after their big loss in the first Test in Perth, where India beat them by a massive 295 runs. With a spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) final at stake, Australia need to bounce back and win this match to stay in the race.
Australia squad for second Test: Pat Cummins (c), Scott Boland, Alex Carey (wk), Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitch Marsh, Nathan McSweeney, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Beau Webster
