Kane Williamson, the charismatic New Zealand star has notched up his 33th Test century on the opening day of the first Test match between the Kiwis and England. He played his last Test in September 2024 against Sri Lanka and missed the following India series. However, the veteran is back with a bang and has scored a fluent 93 on a sporting deck at the Hagley Oval, Christchurch.
Kane Williamson came out to bat at his usual number 3 position as Devon Conway departed early in the day. He looked in his elements right from the onset and stitched a nice stand with his captain Tom Latham. He found gaps with his usual precision and never looked in trouble as other batters like Latham Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell failed to convert their starts.
Kane Williamson Falls Seven Short Of His Hundred
The former New Zealand Test skipper looked all set to get to his 20th Test century in New Zealand during the final session. However, he ended up hitting the ball straight to the point fielder in the 61st over and fell in 90s for the first time since 2018. Kane Williamson's last Test century came against South Africa in February 2024 in Hamilton and he would now be looking to build on this form and notch up some big scores in this series.
Also, the three Test matches are very important for New Zealand to qualify for the WTC final. They whitewashed India recently and now have an outside chance to make it to the final of World Test Championship. For England, it is an opportunity to get back in the winning mode after a series loss against Pakistan on turning tracks.
