In a big development ahead of the 2025 edition of the Caribbean Premier League, Guyana Amazon Warriors have named a temporary replacement for Pakistan-born USA cricketer Hassan Khan. The 26-year-old all-rounder will miss the initial three matches of the season, and in his place, Iftikhar Ahmed has been added to the squad.
Iftikhar Ahmed Adds Experience In Guyana Squad
The experienced Pakistan cricketer has not played in CPL before but has played over 300 T20 games, proving his utility in the shortest format of the game. Interestingly, Iftikhar Ahmed's last T20 game was against Guyana Amazon Warriors in GPL 2025, where he delivered an all-round performance. Along with his power-hitting, his off-break is likely to help Guyana Amazon Warriors in the upcoming edition of CPL 2025.
Iftikhar Ahmed also has played in all three formats for Pakistan. He has 66 T20Is to his name and last played a game for his country in the T20 World Cup 2024 against India.
Hassan Khan, on the other hand, is likely to join the Guyana Amazon Warriors squad after three matches. He played two matches in CPL 2024 for Antigua and Barbuda Falcons and was impressive in the recently held MLC 2025 in the USA.
Guyana To Kickstart Campaign On August 16
Guyana are also set to miss the services of Glenn Phillips in the 2025 season and have named Australian batter, Ben McDermott, as his replacement. Guyana Amazon Warriors were the runners-up in the last edition of the CPL, while they were the winners in 2023. The 2025 edition will kick-off on August 15 while Guyana will play their first match of the season on August 16 against St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots.
Guyana Amazon Warriors recently won the second edition of the Global Super League and are one of the favourites ahead of the 2025 season.
