ICC Women’s CWC 2022 | AUS-W vs ENG-W | Six-time Champions started off World Cup as favourites

The ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 has started off in great fashion. With a couple of close games, the fans have already witnessed some great cricket. The third game too did not disappoint the viewers as it was a high scoring affair between the Australian team and the England team.

The England Women’s team won the toss and elected to bowl first. The English would’ve hoped to restrict the Australians to a low score, however, they were unaware of the storm coming their way.

Natalie Sciver dismissed Alyssa Healey cheaply but that was the only success for the English Women for a long long time to come.

After being 35-1, Australia piled up 196 runs before losing their next wicket. It was a result of the great partnership between Rachael Haynes and captain Meg Lanning. The former finished with a total of 130 runs off 131 balls including 14 boundaries and a solitary maximum.

The captain too put up a great show as she scored 86 runs off 110 balls. The English bowlers did not have much to cheer for as the Aussies finished with a score of 310-3 at the end of their 50 overs. Sciver picked up two wickets but was unable to control the flow of runs.

Chasing 311 was always going to be a tough task and the fact that they lost Winfield Hill in the very first over did not help their cause. However, a 92 run partnership between Tammy Beaumont and Heather Knight gave them a ray of hope.

The English skipper was dismissed after scoring 40 runs and it seemed like England were in great trouble. However, it was a day to remember for Natalie Sciver. After picking up two wickets with the ball she scored an unbeaten hundred with the bat.

The vice-captain’s knock of 109 off 85 balls went in vain as England Women fell short by 12 runs. Beaumont too played a good knock as she finished with a score of 74 runs.

Australia would have surely been nervous at various moments but their bowlers held their nerves. But bygones are bygones as the sixth-time winners have again started a World Cup in a staggering fashion.

Brief scores:

Australia Women – 310-3 (50)

Rachael Haynes 130 (131), Natalie Sciver 2-68 (10)

England Women – 298-8 (50)

Natalie Sciver 109 (85), Alana King 3-59 (10)

Australia won the match by 12 runs.
