South African players' main aim should be to play for the country rather than the IPL: Dean Elgar

The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League is about to begin on 26th March 2022 but the current South African test captain Dean Elgar has urged his players not to be a part of the tournament after he was advised about the players' availability from Cricket South Africa representative for the series.


South Africa will host Bangladesh in March April for 3 One Day Internationals and 2 tests and the series will be played from 18th March-12th April 2022.


Elgar has stated that the players need to talk to Cricket South Africa about whether they will be a part of the South African national team or if they prefer playing in the IPL. He was quoted as saying that he received a call from a representative from Cricket South Africa that whether the players want to play in the IPL or play for the national side as reported by Cricbuzz.


The 34-year-old test skipper was quoted as saying that within a week it will be crystal clear about the players' decision. Elgar also stated that playing One Day Internationals and tests helped the players earn attractive offers in the IPL. He then went on to say that IPL is one of the biggest tournaments in the globe and it is a big platform for upcoming talents but playing for the national side should be the top priority.


Elgar said, “representing South Africa is always a big thing and players should give priority towards the national team”. 


The left-hander has represented in 74 tests scoring 4637 runs with an average of 39 while playing for the proteas.
