In a significant development, the International Cricket Council (ICC) Board has taken the unprecedented decision to suspend Sri Lanka Cricket's membership with immediate effect. The decision was made during a meeting where the ICC Board concluded that Sri Lanka Cricket had seriously breached its obligations as a member.

The primary concern was the failure to manage its affairs autonomously and to prevent government interference in the governance, regulation, and administration of cricket in the country.

Here's what International Cricket Council stated -

"The ICC Board met today and determined that Sri Lanka Cricket is in serious breach of its obligations as a Member, in particular, the requirement to manage its affairs autonomously and ensure that there is no government interference in the governance, regulation, and/or administration of cricket in Sri Lanka," stated the ICC in an official release.

The conditions of the suspension, including its duration and specific terms, will be determined by the ICC Board in the coming days. This unprecedented move reflects the seriousness with which the ICC views breaches of autonomy and interference in cricket administration by member nations.

On the sporting front, Sri Lanka's woes continue as they concluded their ODI World Cup campaign with just four points from nine matches, securing wins against the Netherlands and Bangladesh.

Additionally, their chances of automatic qualification for the Champions Trophy are jeopardized as they are poised to finish outside the top seven in the ODI World Cup standings.
