MS Dhoni, India's most iconic cricketing figure, has been selected for the ICC Hall of Fame and received the game's highest honour just before the 2025 ICC WTC Final. The former India captain was among seven new names revealed by the ICC during a special ceremony at Lord's Cricket Ground in London on June 9, 2025.

Dhoni became the 11th Indian, and 9th male cricketer from the country, to be included in the elite list, alongside other cricket greats such as Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, and Anil Kumble.

Alongside Dhoni, Australia's Matthew Hayden and South Africa's Hashim Amla were also inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Fans Elated With MS Dhoni’s Induction Into ICC Hall Of Fame

Eligibility for the ICC Hall of Fame requires a player to have been retired from international cricket for at least 5 years.

Dhoni’s last international match came against New Zealand on July 10, 2019, in the ODI World Cup semi-final, marking the end of an era and now the beginning of his eternal legacy.

Needless to say, fans were overjoyed to see Dhoni being inducted into the Hall of Fame, one of the most prestigious awards given to cricketers. They shared their enthusiasm on social media through heartwarming messages.

MS Dhoni indeed deserved the honour. Over the course of his illustrious career, he represented India in 90 Tests, 350 ODIs, and 98 T20Is.

He scored 4,876 Test runs, 10,773 ODI runs, and 1,617 T20I runs with an incredible average of 50.57 in the 50-over format, all in spite of batting most of the time in the lower middle order. Behind the stumps, too, he was equally amazing, effecting 829 dismissals across formats.
