Every year, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain gets asked the same question: "When are you planning to retire?". Each year, he replies: "Definitely Not". Throughout the IPL 2025 campaign, his place in the team has been questioned and rightly so as CSK crashed out of the tournament.
The team only won 4 out of their 14 league stage matches as they finished at the last position in the points table but ended their miserable IPL campaign on a high after beating the tournament favourites, Gujarat Titans. After the win, MSD was once again asked on his retirement plans and here's what he said.
Will MSD retire? CSK legend reveals his plan
"I have four or five months to decide [whether to play or not]. It's professional cricket; you have to be at your best. It's not performances. What's important is to see how much hunger you have. I have enough time to decide. I'll go back to Ranchi. I'm not saying I'm done; I'm not saying I'm coming back. I have the luxury of time."
Earlier in the tournament, MSD's parents attended an IPL match as rumours circulated that he will retire from the IPL immediately, but that didn't happen.
Criticism received by MS Dhoni in IPL 2025
Midway through the season, captain of CSK, Ruturaj Gaikwad got injured and was ruled out of the tournament. As a result, the team once again appointed MS Dhoni as the captain, but their fortunes didn't change as the team finished last in the points table.
Throughout the season, some of his captaincy decision has been questioned and experts have called in for him to retire from the league.
