The newly appointed Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), Jay Shah has set his priorities for the upcoming tenure.

The incoming chairperson has decided to give utmost importance to Test cricket, and vows to allocate more funds for Women's cricket.

Jay Shah was elected as the new chairperson, unopposed, and the former BCCI secretary will take over the mantle from Greg Braclay from December 1, 2024.

Jay Shah set to reform ICC; Test Cricket gets priority

His top priority is to make sure that Test cricket gets its due revival. The game's oldest format has been a revelation since the inception of the World Test Championship, and while T20 cricket is certainly booming across the globe, Shah knows that Test cricket should be protected at all cost.

“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to ICC’s Member Boards for placing their trust in me to take over this prestigious role of the Chair of the ICC,” Shah began. As I step into this pivotal role, I am resolutely committed to meeting your high expectations and dedicating myself to the beautiful game of cricket," he added.

"While the T20 is a naturally exciting format, it is equally important that Test cricket remains a priority for everyone as it forms the bedrock of our game. We must see to it that cricketers are driven to longer format and our efforts will be channelised towards this goal," Shah concluded.

The upcoming tenure would be a challenging phase for Shah, and uplifting the women's cricket is also on top of the list. As for the BCCI Secretary post, late Arun Jaitley's son, Rohan Jaitley, is set to takeover from Shah.
