I made decisions, but someone else took credit: Ajinkya Rahane takes veiled dig at Ravi Shastri

After a long lean patch that flung his name in the mud several times in the last two years, Ajinkya Rahane has hit out at his critics. Speaking on Backstage with Boria, Rahane has stated that people who know and understand the sport of cricket.

"I just smile when people says my career is finished, people who know the sport don't talk like that - everyone knows what happened in Australia/even before it, my contribution in red ball - people who love the sport will talk sensibly," said Rahane.

The Indian middle-order batsman was one of the prime reasons behind the subcontinental team’s success in the Australia series Down Under where he not only marshalled his troops but scored a scintillating hundred at Melbourne to lead the fightback against the Australian fast bowling.

However, that series seems to be a thing of the past as both Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara were repeatedly criticised for their lack of big scores in the subsequent big series against New Zealand (WTC) and England.

Rahane stated that he has never been one to beat his own drums and took a veiled dig at then head coach Ravi Shastri for taking credit for his work.

"I know what I've done in Australia series and that's not my nature to go out there and take credits. Yes, there were few decisions that I had taken, but someone else took the credit. Important was for me to win the series," Rahane lashed out.

Many believe that Rahane’s career hangs in the balance as he enters the Indian domestic red ball competition - the Ranji Trophy. He will be playing under captain Prithvi Shaw as Mumbai get back to maintain their dominance in the domestic set-up.
