Chal udhar bhag: Rohit Sharma’s candid captaincy brings back memories for 90’s kids

Indian white-ball captain Rohit Sharma is known for his candid nature on the pitch. Usually, calm and composed throughout the match hours, Rohit is well known for his hilarious press conferences and his quirky gestures on the field.

During India’s second ODI match against West Indies in Ahmedabad, Sharma’s chime at Yuzvendra Chahal left the viewers rolling off their chairs. Seeing Chahal slacking off, Sharma went straight at the leg spinner and barked at him to run. Social media users took a trip back to the memory lane as they compared their childhood cricketing exploits to the Indian captain’s nature on the field.

Watch the incident below.

India won their second game comprehensively to win yet another ODI series against West Indies to extend their superiority over the Caribbean nation in the white ball format. They will now play a dead rubber in Ahmedabad on Friday, February 11 before moving to Kolkata for the T20I series.

IND vs WI | 2nd ODI: Prasidh Krishna scalps four as India take unassailable lead

Riding on some brilliant show from the bowlers and especially Prasidh Krishna, India took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the ODI series against West Indies in Ahmedabad. Chasing 238, the visitors were bowled out for 193 in 46 overs with Krishna picking up four wickets. West Indies had a decent start to the chase with Shai Hope and Brandon King putting up 32 runs on the board before Prasidh removed King for 18 off 20. The Caribbean side then lost the way and suffered another batting collapse to get reduced to 76/5. Shamarh Brooks and Akeal Hosein then tried to steady the ship with a partnership of 41 runs for the sixth wicket. But Deepak Hooda who made his debut for India in the previous game picked the first wicket of his career after he removed Brooks for 44 off 64. The visiting team didn't really get back on track as they lost a few more wickets and were eventually bundled out. Hosein scored 34 off 52 while Odean Smith chipped in with a 20-ball 24 but their efforts weren't really enough to take the team home. Apart from Prasidh Krishna, Shardul Thakur picked up a couple of wickets while Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal, Washington Sundar, and Hooda had one wicket to their names apiece. Earlier, India made a few tweaks in the batting unit as KL Rahul returned and replaced Ishan Kishan while the team management decided to ask Rishabh Pant to open the innings with Rohit Sharma. The experiment didn't really work as India lost early wickets but KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav resisted well and chipped in with 91 runs for the fourth wicket. While KL was run out for 49, SKY struck 64 during the course. The home side also lost wickets at regular intervals but a responsible and quick 29 off 25 from Hooda helped India put 237/9 in 50 overs on the board. "Obviously winning the series is a good feeling. There were some challenges. The partnership between Rahul and Surya had a lot of maturity. We got to a respectable total in the end. We knew we could fight it out. The entire unit came out and bowled superbly. It is important for these guys to bat under pressure and that is how you will judge their character. Surya had to take his time and understand what the team wants from him," Rohit said after the match.
