Lucknow Super Giants fans finally have some good news after what has been a mixed start to the season. Pacer Akash Deep has officially joined the LSG squad ahead of their all-important IPL 2025 clash against Mumbai Indians on Friday.
Akash Deep Joins LSG After Long Injury Layoff
The team dropped a short clip of Akash Deep arriving at the hotel, where he was welcomed by Mitchell Marsh, David Miller, and Nicholas Pooran, some of the key players holding the fort for LSG right now.
The bowling attack has looked toothless in patches so far and Akash’s arrival might just be the boost they have been crying out for. Akash Deep has been on the sidelines for a while.
He last played competitive cricket back in December 2024, before picking up a back injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. Since then, it’s been rehab, rest and recovery. Now, he will be raring to go and could make his LSG debut against Mumbai Indians.
It is worth mentioning that Akash played just one game in IPL 2024, that too for RCB against MI at the Wankhede but he has shown promise in the limited chances he has got. Seven wickets in eight IPL matches might not sound like a lot, but he has always been sharp and hungry.
LSG’s Bowling Woes: Akash’s Entry Comes At The Right Time
To be honest, LSG’s bowling this season has looked more like a hospital ward.
- Mayank Yadav was already recovering from a lumbar stress injury and now he has got a toe issue on top of that.
- Mohsin Khan has been ruled out completely after an ACL tear in December 2024.
- Avesh Khan is back from injury, but still blowing hot and cold.
- Prince Yadav was included early on but hasn’t made much of a dent.
- Shardul Thakur has been trying to plug holes, but is still leaking runs.
Simply put, LSG’s pace attack has looked flay and Akash Deep’s arrival feels like a huge boost The Mumbai Indians clash is crucial and LSG needs someone who can hit the deck hard and bowl with heart. Akash ticks both those boxes.
Also, let us not forget, LSG shelled out INR 8 crores for him at the auction. That is not chump change. That is a big bet. And it is time they finally cash in on it.
