On Wednesday, legendary Indian batter Virat Kohli injured his thumb while fielding in the high-voltage IPL 2025 face-off between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT). Led by Shubman Gill, GT registered a clinical victory over RCB, swatting them aside by eight wickets.

The incident occurred during GT's run-chase after RCB posted 169 runs on the board, thanks to a blistering half-century by Liam Livingstone. Kohli, who disappointed RCB with the bat, scoring only seven runs, was hit on his thumb while trying to prevent the ball from crossing the boundary ropes.
He was in agonising pain; however, he continued to field after the RCB physio attended him for a brief time. Although Kohli didn't walk off the field, his fans and well-wishers were curious to know if a potential thumb injury would make him to sit out of RCB's next match.
However, RCB coach Andy Flower has clarified that Kohli is alright and will be ready to go for the next game against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium. In the post-match presser, Flower answered the query regarding Kohli's fitness, saying, “Virat looks fine, he’s okay."
Kohli Registers Two Consecutive Batting Failures In IPL 2025
Virat Kohli, who performed admirably in the Champions Trophy, had a solid start to his IPL 2025 campaign, scoring a match-winning fifty against Kolkata Knight Riders in the tournament opener. However, he failed to replicate a similar success in the subsequent matches, registering low scores against CSK and GT.
So, RCB's fourth group-stage clash against MI gives Kohli a golden opportunity to showcase his mettle and redeem himself in the tournament.
