New Zealand’s explosive opener Finn Allen has been ruled out of the upcoming T20I Tri-Series in Zimbabwe after sustaining a foot injury while playing for the San Francisco Unicorns in MLC 2025. The Black Caps will be without one of their most dynamic T20 batters as they gear up to face South Africa and Zimbabwe in the tri-series starting July 14 at Harare Sports Club.
Notably, Allen’s recovery timeline remains uncertain, with further specialist consultations scheduled once he returns to New Zealand. The New Zealand Cricket Board has confirmed that a replacement player will be named in due course to fill the void left by Allen’s absence.
The Finn Allen Gap To Hurt New Zealand In T20I Series?
Finn Allen has been a standout performer for New Zealand in the T20 format, known for his aggressive play and ability to take the game away from the opposition within a few overs.
In MLC 2025, he started with a bang with his 51-ball 151 and hence, his ability to score quickly at the top of the order has made him a crucial asset for New Zealand in limited-overs cricket. Without Allen, the Kiwis might fall short of a couple of runs with the bat in limited-overs cricket.
Allen’s injury is a significant blow to New Zealand’s batting lineup, especially in a tri-series that serves as a key preparation for the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup.
Kiwis To Start T20I Challenge Against South Africa
The Black Caps’ campaign in Zimbabwe begins with a challenging fixture against South Africa on July 16, where they will aim to start strong despite the setback of losing one of their premier T20 stars. Fans will be watching closely to see how New Zealand adapts to this change and whether Allen can recover in time to rejoin the squad later in the series.
