Almost two months after announcing his retirement from Test cricket, Indian cricket legend Virat Kohli finally spoke publicly about his decision. At an event in London, Kohli jokingly said that his beard turning grey was a sign for him to slow down.

Kohli announced his retirement on May 12, 2025, through a heartfelt Instagram post. In it, he wrote how difficult the decision was but said it felt right. He mentioned that Test cricket had given him more than he could ever imagine and that he would always look back with gratitude and pride.

Virat Kohli Blames Grey Beard For Test Retirement

On July 8, Virat Kohli attended a charity event in London hosted by Yuvraj Singh for the ‘YouWeCan’ Foundation.

Kohli joined several cricket stars, including Kevin Pietersen, Chris Gayle, and Ravi Shastri, and shared light-hearted and emotional thoughts on his decision to walk away from the longest format of the game.

"I just coloured my beard two days ago. You know it's time when you are colouring your beard every four days," Kohli said.

Though the former Test cricketer had a smile on his face, his retirement left millions of fans back home shattered. Now, the 36-year-old will continue to feature in the ODI format for India.

In his glorious Test career, Kohli played 123 matches, scoring 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85. He smashed 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries, including 7 double hundreds, the most by any Indian. He was also the first Indian captain to win a Test series in Australia in 2018-19.

Kohli Enjoys Retirement With Wimbledon Visit

Tennis legend Novak Djokovic staged a stunning comeback against Alex de Minaur at Wimbledon 2025, and one fan cheering him on was none other than Virat Kohli. Watching from the stands with wife Anushka Sharma, Kohli called Djokovic a "gladiator" in his Instagram story. Djokovic responded warmly, saying, “Thank you for supporting.” Now based in London, Kohli made a rare public appearance with his wife, Anushka.
