Rajasthan Royals bought Jofra Archer for 12.50 Crore with a hope that he would be their main asset in the bowling department. However, things have not gone according to the plans in the initial two matches, as he is yet to pick a single wicket, and has been expensive as well.
Jofra Archer's Expensive Spells Sparks Debates Over RR's Auction Blunder
In the first game, Jofra Archer became the most expensive bowler in the history of the IPL by giving away 76 runs in his four overs, and in the second game, he gave away 33 runs in just 2.3 overs. RR fans and management would be now thinking that they have made a big mistake by giving away 12.50 Crore for Jofra.
However, Mumbai Indians, Jofra's previous team, also has a big role to play in the inflated price of the pacer. They bided right till the end for Jofra Archer at 12.25 Crore during the IPL 2025 mega auction. The five-time champions were the one who kept bidding for Jofra, first with LSG in competition, and then with RR.
Mumbai Indians' Second Wave Of Action Inflates Jofra Archer's Price
Rajasthan Royals seeing Mumbai's keen interest initially, jumped into the proceedings at 8.50 Crore when LSG seemed to be winning the bid at 8.25 Crore. However, MI who displayed disinterest for a brief time, came back into the action once RR joined, and from 8.50 Crore, his price increased to 12.50 Crore as Mumbai Indians started raising the paddle without longer hiccups.
However, just when it looked like MI will go all in for Jofra Archer, they decided to stop the bid and RR were left with the 12.50 Crore bid. Thus, the last few bids by MI clearly played a big part in inflating the price of Jofra Archer, and it could be the case of a franchise trying to chew up other team's money by faking their over enthusiasm.
Overall, it is turning out to be a big blunder from RR so far, and the English pacer would have to come out with better plans and execution in the upcoming games.
