India vs Pakistan- (Source:@Johns/X.com)
India's chances to qualify for the WTC 2025 final took a massive blow after they suffered a defeat in the second Test, and the third Test also saw no result because of persistent rain. The series is currently levelled at 1-1, and India need to win the remaining two matches to directly qualify for the final and not rely on other teams.
In case the Rohit Sharma-led side goes onto lose one of their next two matches, they then shift their hopes to Sri Lanka, who will host Australia for a two-match Test series and pray for their neighbours to hand Aussies two defeats in the two-match Test series.
However, if India win just one of their remaining two matches and Australia go on to win one of the two matches against Sri Lanka, the Pat Cummins-led side would progress to the finals.
Pakistan's Win Over South Africa Can Help India
Meanwhile, India would then have to rely on their arch-nemesis Pakistan. Notably, South Africa, who are at the top of the WTC table are the clear favourites to qualify for the finals and require just one win of the two Test matches against Pakistan at home.
However, if the Shan Masood-led side beat South Africa in both Tests, then it would open doors for India to qualify for the finals. Thus, in case the Rohit Sharma-led side fail to qualify on their merit, they would certainly be praying for Pakistan to win 2-0 against the Proteas.
At present, South Africa are at the top of the table with 63.33 PCT, while Australia are second with 58.89 and India at third with 55.88.
