Punjab Kings slumped to their fourth defeat of IPL 2024, this time to Rajasthan Royals in a crunch home game at Mullanpur on April 13. Defending 148, fast bowlers Arshdeep Singh and Harshal Patel failed to maintain the pressure laid out by pace colleagues Sam Curran and Kagiso Rabada as well as by spinners Liam Livingstone and Harpreet Brar.

While Harshal conceded 21 runs off his two overs, Arshdeep leaked 45 from 3.5 overs which included 14 match-defining runs in the final five deliveries of the game.

As their collective bowling failures continue to haunt Punjab Kings, fans of the franchise and fellow IPL enthusiasts took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their reaction. While a legion of netizens trolled Arshdeep Singh and Harshal Patel for their expensive spells, others expressed empathy for Punjab Kings’ stand-in captain Sam Curran after the close defeat.

Defending 148, ace paceman Kagiso Rabada struck twice in his four-over spell at the expense of just 18 runs. Captain Sam Curran also seized two wickets and conceded just 25 off his four overs. Spinners Liam Livingstone and Harpreet Brar delivered six overs between them and conceded 43 runs combined with the prized scalp of Rajasthan Royals opener Tanush Kotian.

With the pressure creeping up on Rajasthan Royals in the death overs of the game, struggling fast bowlers Arshdeep Singh and Harshal Patel leaked 14 runs each from their respective final overs to ensure that the visitors soared past the finishing line with a ball to spare.

After the outcome, netizens shared hilarious memes at the expense of Arshdeep and Harshal on the micro-blogging site, and also urged Punjab Kings management to make some radical changes in the playing XI going forward.
