Team India, under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur, clinched the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup last week by outclassing South Africa Women at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Apparently, the grand finale pulled in record viewership, enough to match even the hype surrounding the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup win by the Indian men’s team.
The tournament itself secured a record pull, garnering a reach big enough to surpass the previous three ICC Women’s World Cup editions combined on digital platforms.
JioHotstar sets huge record with IND vs SA World Cup final
As reported by news18.com, the final match of the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup attracted 185 million users on the JioHotstar, matching the viewership from the final of the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup last year. Interestingly, it was an Indian team that defeated South Africa on both occasions to lift the coveted ICC silverware.
The India vs South Africa Women’s World Cup final viewership even exceeded that of the average daily reach of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Overall, the entire 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup fetched in 446 million viewers, surpassing the combined reach of the previous three Women’s World Cup editions combined, making it the most watched Women’s 50-overs spectacle in history.
Acknowledging the record viewership, JioStar CEO Ishan Chatterjee praised the Indian women’s team and reaffirmed the “growing stature of women’s cricket in India”. He also praised the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as well as the International Cricket Council (ICC) in popularizing the women’s game.
The unprecedented viewership marks a watershed moment for women’s cricket in India. With Harmanpreet Kaur and her team scripting history, the sport’s popularity has well and truly entered a new era.
