Abhimanyu Easwaran falls for a duck in IND A 2nd innings vs SA A [Source: @pratyush_no7/X.com]
Almost a month after his 'why not me' claim on India selection controversy, Abhimanyu Easwaran have fallen flat on his face with back-to-back ducks in the India A vs South Africa A unofficial Test series.
The 30-year-old domestic veteran has been a mainstay in first-class cricket with his stints for Bengal and memorable knocks for India A as well. However, his recent outings have put a dent in his otherwise not-so-likely India comeback.
Easwaran jeopardizes own fate after back-to-back ducks
Abhimanyu Easwaran, who is in the Playing XI of the currently ongoing India A vs South Africa A 2nd unofficial Test, recorded consecutive ducks in his two innings for the home team, both gone for an lbw dismissal.
In his first innings, Easwarana was dismissed in the third ball he faced by Tshepo Moreki, which left India at 2-1. In his second innings too, he was exposed by pace as 28-year-old Okuhle Cele beat him by the inside edge with a fuller length bowl angling inside the stumps.
In both instances, Easwaran was caught while attempting a drive, and his stay for both innings came to an end after just 3 balls. This would raise questions on his technique and his stature as a top-order batter who has vast experience in first-class cricket with his 107 matches and 8070 runs at an average of 48.32.
Easwaran replaced Ayush Mhatre in the Playing XI after the first unofficial Test, who led with good contributions with the bat; however, Easwaran's fall only adds to India A's woes.
Easwaran put India A in trouble after duck
After being put in to bat first after losing the toss, Rishabh Pant & Co. piled up a total of 255 runs on the board, with Tiaan Van Vuurenn starring with a four-wicket haul. In reply, South Africa A struggled, getting bundled out for just 221 runs as Prasidh Krishna claimed three wickets, while Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj picked up two each.
Now, with Abhimanyu Easwaran dismissed in the second over, the hosts at CoE are currently two wickets down while setting up the total for the visitors to chase.
