Fadnavis leads Maharashtra’s salute to World Cup queens Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah

Tributes continue to pour in for India’s triumphant women cricketers, with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis becoming the latest to join the bandwagon in honouring the World Cup 2025-winning team. On Friday, November 7, i.e., roughly a week after India’s historic win, the veteran politician invited several World Cup winning members like Smriti Mandhana and Mumbai cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues.

The Maharashtra CM also rewarded each of the three cricketers with a huge cash prize of Rs. 2.25 crores.

World Cup win invites further windfall for Mandhana and Rodrigues

The Indian women’s team received a staggering cash reward from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after winning the Women’s World Cup last week. The Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) also honoured Harmanpreet Kaur and Amanjot Kaur with a lucrative cash prize, while the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) prepared a special honour for Bengal-based cricketer and attacking batter Richa Ghosh.

On November 7, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis invited Maharashtra cricketer and Indian vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, Mumbai-based batter and India’s middle-order resolute Jemimah Rodrigues as well as wily left-arm spinner Radha Yadav into his office.

In the felicitation ceremony, the veteran politician also gifted each of the three cricketers a cash reward of Rs. 2.25 crores.

Earlier this week, the Himachal Pradesh government recognised the World Cup 2025 heroics of local girl and ace fast bowler Renuka Singh Thakur with a prize money of Rs. 1 crore.

In Madhya Pradesh, the state government announced that young Kranti Goud will also be receiving a prize of Rs. 1 crore for her contributions towards India’s World Cup winning team.

With tributes pouring in from all corners of the country, India’s 2025 World Cup-winning players continue to inspire a new generation, symbolising pride and the long-overdue recognition of women’s cricket on the grandest stage.
